Lee Roy Selmon has a tradition that blends family scholarship football with volunteer work in the community. He is the youngest child of Lucious Selmon and Jessie Selmon. They brought him up on their family farm near Eufala. Also, he was one of three siblings that represented Oklahoma on the field of football. Three brothers all made All-American teams. In 1973, Lee Roy and Lucious Jr. Dewey were the starters for one year. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's finest lineman. In the three seasons he was Oklahoma's first lineman, the Sooners went 33-1-1, and picked up two championships. Selmon received a third award in 1975. In addition, he was referred to as an National Football Foundation Student-Athlete. Selmon received his bachelor's qualification in the field of education. Lee Roy dedicated ten volunteer time per week throughout the course of his college. In Tampa, he played for the Buccaneers for nine seasons, and eventually became an all-pro. In addition, he began his career in the field of business. When he was in the year 1988, he began working as an Account Relations Officer for First Florida Bank in Tampa. He was employed by the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute and for the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. So it's not surprising that it was a surprise to hear that he was voted one of the 10 most notable young men across the United States in 1982 by the Junior Chamber of Commerce in 1982. In his student days, Lee Roy was 6-2 and weighted 256 lbs. He was captain of his university team in the year 1975. He joined University of South Florida in 1993, as director of athletics as an associate. He was named associate director of athletics by the College Football Hall of Fame recognized him in 1988. GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame, in 1994. Pro Football Hall of Fame In 1995. In 1989, the Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 handed out the Distinguished American Award to his parents Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon, the governor of Oklahoma presented it.
